Care for your plants with this high quality Owl Moisture Meter. Full grown plants are very expensive, Protect your plants by testing before each watering. 1. Before and after each test wipe and dry probe. 2. Gently insert probe, avoiding root ball. (Insert to a depth just past the middle of the container) 3. The initial reading is accurate, after a few seconds the needle may start to go back to its “at rest” point in the “dry zone. ” 4. Check each plant prior to watering to prevent over watering. 5. Wipe off probe tip and store in a dry place after each test. Don’t leave meter in soil, long term moisture at the tip will erode the accuracy of the unit. If the tips of the leaves turn brown, the plant is too dry, increase the level of moisture. This meter is a great learning tool in the way it operates. It doesn’t require batteries because an electrical charge is generated by inserting the probe into the soil.  The more moisture that is in the soil means more power is generated and the further over the needle goes.  As the zinc tip is inserted into the soil minute particles oxidize and and create an electrical charge by interacting with the metal in the shaft. This combination of the different alloys and the inserting action into the soil create the charge.  The meter will last for thousands of tests. The meter will not work in water because there isn’t enough oxygen in the water to oxidize the zinc and power the meter. The tip is zinc and that’s the part that will slowly oxidize when left in soil. If you leave it in the soil for long periods of time the constant oxidation of the zinc will make the unit inaccurate. ©2005 Copyright Inocraft Produts Inc.
